El Salvador Declares
Micheletti is Persona Non Grata
SAN SALVADOR - El Salvador Farabundo Marti
National Liberation Front (FMLN) Party
declared persona non grata visiting Honduran
de facto President Roberto Micheletti.
"Because of his anti-democratic behavior,
violatory of human rights and disrespect of
international organizations, the FMLN
declares Roberto Micheletti persona non
grata in El Salvador," reads the communiqué.
The FMLN also regrets the invitation to a
business meeting invited by San Salvador
Mayor Norman Quijano with support of local
ultraconservative political parties.
Incumbent Micheletti led the June 28, 2009
coup against Honduran President-elect Manuel
Zelaya.
The FMLN was named after the rebel leader
Farabundo Martí, who led workers and
peasants in an uprising to transform
Salvadoran society after the devastation
caused by the eruption of the volcano Izalco
in 1932.
