Boosts Social
Plans
Costa Rica's
government will
drive social
actions in 25
communities of
the country
which are in
extreme poverty,
President Laura
Chinchilla said.
According to the
presidenta the
program is
scheduled to
begin in the
first 100 days
of her
administration.
She specified
that the chosen
localities to
begin with the
assistance
program are
Guarani in
Heredia and San
Martin
neighborhood in
Nicoya on the
Pacific coast.
Chinchilla
explained the
plan will try to
solve housing
problems, the
difficulties
related to job
access, health
and education.
According to
official records
Costa Rica has a
population of
about 4, 600,000
inhabitants,
18.5 percent
live in poverty.
The eradication
of poverty and
the fight
against
insecurity in
the country were
the main
promises during
Chinchilla
campaign, Costa
Rica's first
woman president
who took office
on May 8, 2010.
