Brazil To Be Better Place To
Live In 2022
RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazilian Strategic Affairs
Minister said on Thursday that his country
will be a better place to live by 2022, the
200th anniversary of its independence.
In a radio show, Samuel Pinheiro Guimaraes
detailed the so-called Plan Brazil 2022,
which foresees advances in several areas.
First, he said his country will be able to
offer full-time education to all children
ages 4 to 17, which will eliminate
illiteracy and help keep youngsters from
crime.
Education quality is also expected to
improve and the number of college students
will be doubled, reaching 10 million by
then.
Guimaraes also said the number of engineers
is expected to increase threefold.
"For every 1 million reais invested, you
need another engineer," he said.
The Plan further foresees four new nuclear
power plants to be built and the doubling of
the per capita energy consumption. Brazil
currently has two working nuclear power
plants and one under construction.
The fulfilment of the plan requires the GDP
to grow 7 percent annually by 2022. Although
the GDP is expected to grow only 4.5 percent
this year, Brazilians are confident about
the realization of the Plan. |
