Santos Names Maria Angela
Holguin As New Colombian Foreign Minister
BOGOTA - President-elect of Colombia Juan
Manuel Santos named Maria Angela Holguin
Thursday as the new foreign minister, who
will be with him on his tour through Europe
and Latin America.
"She has been a very effective official on
other public fronts (...) we will work hard
on the whole issue of international
relations," the president-elect told
reporters Thursday.
Maria Angela Holguin is currently a
representative of the Andean Promotion
Corporation in Argentina. She served as
deputy foreign minister and Ambassador of
Colombia to the United Nations (UN) and in
Venezuela.
Santos also appointed Juan Meza as senior
adviser of communications. He was private
secretary of then President Ernesto Samper
(1994-1998).
Santos will visit Spain, Britain, France,
Germany, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Chile
and Peru during June and July, as part of
the international tour before taking office
as president on August 7 from President
Alvaro Uribe. |
