Salvadorian Storm Losses in
Millions
SAN SALVADOR - Economic losses in El
Salvador caused by Tropical Storm Agatha in
May amount to $112.10 million, according to
a report from the Economic Commission for
Latin America (ECLAC).
The document was released on Thursday by the
technical secretary to the president,
Alexander Segovia, who said damage to public
infrastructure such as bridges, roads,
schools and health centers totaled $44.10
million.
Losses in agriculture, the environment, and
housing were valued at $68 million, while in
the public sector -- the hardest-hit --
losses were estimated at $81.10 million.
Those losses add to the damage left in
November by Hurricane Ida, estimated at $300
million.
Segovia clarified that the ECLAC statistics
do not include reconstruction costs, which
will be a lot higher.
