Costa Rica's Labour Minister Doesn't Want Import Of Chinese Workers

The ministra de Trabajo, Sandra Piszk, is does not want to allow entry to Costa Rica of Chinese workers, specifically the 100 foreign workers that the constructor, Chinafecc, of the Paseo Colon tower apartments wants to import.

The Labour ministry says that there are sufficient qualified construction workers in Costa Rica for the company to hire on the project.

Minister Pisxk added that there is a high unemployment level in the construction industry and is asking the immigration service not to issue visa for any Chinese labourers.

The massive import of Chinese labour first occurred on the new national stadium project.

The stadium is being built by the Chinese government and donated to Costa Rica. For the building of the national stadium, in addition to some 600 Chinese workers, materials and equipment used on the project.
