Morales for End of Capitalism
to Save the Planet
OTAVALO, ECUADOR - President of Bolivia Evo
Morales highlighted on Friday the importance
of unity to promote changes in Latin America
and said that only the eradication of
Capitalism will save planet Earth.
In his speech at the Tenth Summit of the
Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our
America (ALBA), Morales recalled that after
so many years of fighting colonialism, now
it is up to native peoples to fight US
imperialism.
In the meeting, attended by several
presidents and indigenous and
Afro-descendant authorities, Morales said
that native peoples have to "move from
resistance to seizing power to rule
themselves."
Morales insisted on the importance of an
alliance among indigenous people, those of
mixed race, artists, intellectuals and other
social strata to step up ongoing
transformations in the region.
He recalled that Bolivia closed down US
military bases and without any fear his
government nationalized hydrocarbons and
regained natural resources.
"Thatâ�Ös why it is so important to defend
our dignity, our sovereignty," he said.
Morales insisted on the need to approve a UN
declaration on the rights of Mother Earth to
save life in the planet and urged people
present to take the knowledge of native
peoples into account.
"The organized people, the indigenous and
farmer movement are aware of their problems,
but they also know what the answers to their
problems are," he said. |
