Elderly Guatemalans Receive
Grant
GUATEMALA - The program known as Economic
Contribution for the Elderly currently
benefits nearly 98,000 Guatemalans,
according to government estimates.
The nearly 1,300 Guatemalans lately
benefited are from Guatemala department,
after a socioeconomic study was conducted to
determine its vulnerability and living
conditions in extreme poverty.
Regarding that, President Alvaro Colom
reiterated his administration spares no
effort to guarantee social protection and
help low-income citizens, this time people
from the third age.
Guatemalans benefited with this governmental
program monthly receive 400 quetzales (about
$50.00 dollars), according to the Labor and
Welfare Ministry.
The Minister of that portfolio, Edgar
Rodriguez, said socioeconomic studies are
been held to analyze over 400,000
