Colombia Offers Reward For Capture
Of Gunmen
BOGOTA - The Colombian
government on Sunday offered a reward of
51,000 U.S. dollars for anyone with
information that can lead to the capture of
the gunmen who attacked the president of the
Medellin city assembly.
President Alvaro Uribe expressed his regret
over the attack against Jhon Moncada Ospina,
who is recovering in the hospital after
receiving two shots in his abdomen Saturday
night.
"I reaffirm the reward of up to 100 million
Colombian pesos (51,000 dollars) for those
who give information to help the authorities
capture the material and intellectual
authors of this grave attack," Uribe said.
Meanwhile, Medellin mayor Alonso Salazar has
ordered the regional authorities to begin an
"intensive" operation to find and capture
the attackers.
Four gunmen ambushed Moncada's car and shot
at him repeatedly on Saturday night.
One of the gunmen was killed by Moncada's
bodyguard and another was injured and
detained by police. |
