Brazil: Third Humanitarian
Donation to Guatemala
GUATEMALA - Brazil made another donation to
Guatemala, the third in several months, this
one for $ 150,000 to those affected by two
natural events late last May.
The fund will be used to purchase food and
supplies considered as a priority by the
Guatemalan government, in support to those
affected by the eruption of Pacaya volcano
and the tropical storm Agatha.
A symbolic check was delivered at the
headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, by the
Brazilian ambassador to Guatemala, Luiz
Antonio Fachini Gomes, who requested the
products to be obtained by local farmers.
This, he said, will stimulate the
socio-economic development of this sector in
this nation, and reiterated to Prensa Latina
that these financial resources will go to
the World Food Programme (WFP) on behalf of
his government and people.
Deputy Foreign Minister Estuardo Roldán
appreciated the gesture, on behalf of the
nation's authorities, in sympathy with those
who suffer loss of relatives and personal
assets. |
