Serial Rapist and Killer Betrayed By Lover And Mother Now In Police Custody

The Fuerza Pública and the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) have been on full alert the past two weeks in search of the "violador en serie" (serial rapist) who turned killer, stalking women along the autopista General Cañas, where police patrols and search of the bushes and ravines intensified this past week.

However, it was the call of a 15 year old girl to police to tell them her story that led Milton Joaquín Díaz Berrosteran behind bars.

The girl, who identity was not released, lived with Díaz for the last six months and told police she was also raped by the man and had filed charges against him, what authorities believe to be the stressor behind the crime spree.

Francisco Segura, subdirector del Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), at a press conference explained how they confiscated items like a SIM phone chip and sunglasses belonging to the one of the victims attacked by Díaz.

Segura said to be certain that the man in custody is the serial rapist who turned killed, raping five women and killing Cindy Esquivel, between June 17 and 24.

Díaz's mother was also responsible for the capture, telling the press that she knew her son had problems, had been a drug user and was prone to violence, but could not stomach that her offspring was the rapist turned murder.

"In this like all comes to be known", the woman told police.

The woman said she could not keep quiet and become an accomplice, telling police that the man they had in custody was her son was faking being deaf and dumb.

Segura explained that the man would entrust the women who, for the major part, got off a bus on the General Cañas, using his "disability" as a trick to lure the women to a secluded area where he would then pull out a knife and sexually assault them.

In the case of Cindy Esquivel, the sexual assault turned to murder.

Authorities say the man lived less than a kilometre from Cindy Esquivel.

Milton Joaquín Díaz Berrosteran was ordered to six months preventive detention while authorities continue their investigation and collect evidence to be used in trial.
