Reconstruction After Passage Of Tropical
Storm
SAN SALVADOR - El Salvador has begun
reconstruction after Tropical Storm Alex
struck the country and caused a river to
burst its banks in the capital of San
Salvador, according to news reaching here on
Tuesday.
The country has lowered its alert level to
green for Alex, the first named storm in the
Atlantic hurricane season, which struck
Central America at the weekend and is now in
the Gulf of Mexico.
The civil protection department estimated
earlier on Tuesday that the storm had killed
three people, left one missing and 1,222
others homeless.
The government of El Salvador assigned 566
million U.S. dollars to the repair work on
Monday. It has also provided 100,000 dollars
for the country's fishery industry, which is
suffering from the Hurricane Agatha that
struck the country in late May.
Tropical storm Alex, which is set to become
a hurricane later on Tuesday, killed one
person in the southern Mexican state of
Oaxaca.
The storm, currently in the Gulf of Mexico,
has already killed nine people in Central
America and triggered torrential rains in
southern Mexico overnight. |
