Still No Venue For The
Chinchilla Swearing In Ceremony
With ˘100 million colones in their pockets,
the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores
(Foreign Ministry), has been hard at work
during the last couple of weeks to determine
where the transfer of power ceremony will
take place. We all know when, but where?
No May 8th, Costa Rican president, Oscar
Arias, hands over the presidential sash to
president-elect, Laura Chinchilla.
The original thought by Arias was to have it
at the national stadium. But, that is not
complete. Although it has been inaugurated,
the stadium still has a year or more to go
before the Chinese workers hand over the
keys.
The ceremony is an important one, not only
to showcase to the world the democratic
process of Costa Rica, one of the older
democracies in the Americas, but also an
historic occasion, as Costa Rica will be
governed, for the first time, by a woman.
The only thing that is for sure right now is
that on the evening of May 7th, Don Oscar
will host a dinner at his home in Rohrmoser,
an event to say goodbye to his invited
guests, both national and international.
For the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores
the choice of venue for the ceremony on the
8th will be very important, as the
international community will be looking in
on San José that day.
