Supermarkets in Costa Rica Gear Up For Semana Santa

It is still weeks away, but Semana Santa (Easter Week) is already in the air and in the supermarkets as they have already stocked their shelves to lure customers looking for traditional foods like chiverres, sardines and sea food, among others.

But, shop around. Prices on the same or similar products can vary from store to store. Also, keep an eye on the bargains published in the daily print newspapers.

Competing for customers are the Wal-mart chain of stores: Hipermas, Mas x Menos, Palí, Maxi Bodega; and Automercado, Mega Super and Perimercados.

Smaller chains and regional stores like the Luperon in Playas del Coco, also have great deals to attract customers for the holiday season.
