Decry Anti-Venezuela Drive
CARACAS - Supporters of Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez have called on followers to get
ready to face an offensive against the
country prior to the parliamentary
elections, and amid a process to reinforce
regional unity.
In views of accusations from Spain, the US
and the Inter-American Commission of Human
Rights, leaders from the United Socialist
Party of Venezuela (PSUV) urged their rank
and files to be ready to counter the
right-wing offensive.
Freddy Bernal, member of the PSUV national
leadership, asked grass root organizations
to encourage community debates on the
strategy to discredit the government and
weaken internal unity and regional
integration.
For Bernal, it is not fortuitous the
coincidence of accusations by the
Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on
alleged violations, and the attempt by a
Spanish judge to link the government with
the ETA Basque organization and the
Colombian guerrilla.
Another attack lies on the US Congress'
statement that Bolivia and Venezuela do not
encourage the anti-drug trafficking fight.
Constitutionalist deputy and lawyer Carlos
Escarra noted the situation is repeated
every time elections are getting close, in
this case the parliamentary ones set for
September 26.
According to President Chavez, the
anti-Venezuela campaign occurs because the
US "is moving its counters," and included in
that move the recent South America trip by
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Clinton came to South America to attack
Venezuela. It is an internationally
orchestrated aggression, a concert, and it
is the Yankee empire the one moving the
counters from behind, the president
stressed. |
