Brazil Against Early
Normalization of Relations with Honduras
BRASILIA.- The Brazilian Foreign Minister
Celso Amorim ruled out restoring relations
with Honduras in the short-term, and said it
depends on the measures taken by President
Porfirio Lobo for the return to democratic
normality in the Central American country.
DPA reports that after a meeting in Brasilia
with the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton, Amorim said that the speedy
reintegration of Honduras to the
Inter-American system requires "timely and
specific acts."
Among the measures that Brazil expects to be
taken by Lobo, he mentioned the
authorization for the former constitutional
president Manuel Zelaya, deposed in a coup
on June 28, 2009, to return to his country
if he so wishes. |
