Virilla Bridge With Partial Closures On Saturday

The Virilla bridge over the autopista General Cañas continues to be a shame for the country, as one of the most transited, continues to with a gap in one of the spans and now with a broken concrete railing that could lead a vehicle or pedestrian to drop hundreds of metres into the Virilla river below.

The "platina" bridge has it has come to be known will be closed of on March 13 for work crews to repair the railing after a truck slammed into it last week.

Affected will be one lane in the Alajuela - San José direction from 4am on Saturday to, well, when the work is finished, according to the Ministerio de obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT), which expects not to take more than a day.

MOPT officials assure that the break in the railing does not compromise the structural integrity of the bridge and the work to be carried out on Saturday is not related to the "platina".
