Central Government Workers
Get Semana Santa Off
Some 116.000 public sector will employees
will have the entire Semana Santa (Easter
Week) off, said the ministro de la
Presidencia, Rodrigo Arias, yesterday
following a cabinet meeting.
Arias added he would be issuing a directive
to all central government department and
agencies that all public employees will have
off between March 29 to March 31. Thursday,
April 1, and Friday, April 2, are legal
holidays.
The employees will be using three vacation
days, meaning a savings to government
spending, explained minister Arias.
Although the legal holiday is Thursday and
Friday, most Costa Ricans begin their Semana
Santa vacation with the close of business on
Friday, March 26, and return to work on
Monday, April 5.
Banks, financials institutions and
retailiers are open March 29, 30 and 31,
however, many businesses decide to close the
entire week.
Autonomous public institutions and agencies
like ICE and AyA are not subject to the
directive, however, they tend to follow the
central government hours and closings or at
best work with a skeleton staff.
Best is to check ahead. |
