Colombia Presidential
Candidates Ask Uribe to Clarify Complaints
BOGOTA - Candidates for the presidency of
Colombia asked President Álvaro Uribe on
Thursday to clarify their complaints about
alleged funding in future elections by a
foreign government.
The Liberal Party candidate Rafael Pardos
said Uribe and the director of the
controversial Department of Administrative
Security (DAS) Felipe Munoz should clarify
the subject, without muddying the political
campaigns.
The Colombians need to know to whom they
without a pall of doubt over all the ones
practicing politics in this period when
facing congressional elections on Sunday and
the presidential ones on May.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate for
the Afro-Colombian Sicail Alliance Jaime
Araujo Renteria, pointed out Uribeâ�Ös
statements is irresponsible and abstract so
it must be precise.
"It makes a big cloud of doubt and it is
like saying that in Colombia, a president
and former presidents are drug traffickers
so everyone will wonder who are the
trafficker presidents ", he said.
Also, the candidate for the Radical Change
party German Vargas Lleras demanded to the
president specific information and names
before legislative elections on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Gustavo Petro a candidate for the
Alternative Democratic Pole decalred Uribe
is making an accusation of crimes to be
punished with jail but specifying the names
and sources.
Colombian President reiterated on Wednesday
his complaint about alleged interference by
a foreign government in the development of
the general elections scheduled for May,
without specifying which.
"In a report by the intelligence a foreign
government makes an analysis of the
candidacies to veto candidates and to impose
candidates which can not be allowed," he
said.
This is the second time Uribe makes
reference to alleged interference of a
foreign state in general election.
On Monday, the president denounced the
alleged foreign intervention and called on
Colombians not to be influenced. |
