Reports Of Earthquake Friday Night Proved
False By Experts
The 911 service was
inundated Friday night with calls reporting
or asking for information on the earthquake.
What earthquake?
Shortly after 7pm, the evening news stations
asked people to not call in, to overburden
the 911 service in the event of a real
emergency, as there was no earthquake.
The Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico
de Costa Rica (OVSICORI) flatly refuted and
proved false the existence of any tremors
recorded by their equipment anywhere in
Costa Rica.
Some of the callers to the 911 said that
there had been a volcanic eruption.
However, that too was refuted.
It could be that the heat wave in Costa Rica
is the source of the false reports that
predominated the social networking websites
since Thursday.
It is a popular belief in Costa Rica that
when the temperature is hot and there is
absolutely no wind or breeze, as as the case
Friday night and so close to the changeover
of dry season to wet, it could cause
earthquakes.
Given the tremor felt in San Pedro a week
ago Friday, the increased volcanic activity
at three major volcanos and the earthquakes
globally, it was a safe bet that there had
to be an earthquake in Costa Rica.
