Venezuela Mayors Deny
Colombian Polls Interference
CARACAS - Two Venezuelan mayors denied on
Friday they have provided economic and
logistic support to any Colombian candidate
to the Congress, as that country's media
reported.
Mayors Nelson Becerra, from Ureña, and
Vicente Cañas, from Bolivar, in the state of
Tachira, bordering Colombia, stated that
there is a great Colombian population in the
demarcation, which has motivated aspirants
to public posts to seek votes.
Becerra said he met in January with Mauricio
Trujillo, representative from the Democratic
Pole in Colombia who aspires to the Chamber
by residents abroad, and requested
information about the Colombian residents
there and can vote.
If a candidate hopes to represent the
Colombian residents abroad, he should get
closer to them, but denied that as a mayor,
he has supported interference in the
Colombian policy, Becerra told La Nacion
newspaper.
On the other hand, Bolivar mayor Vicente
Cañas stated that they has not given any
kind of support, as they want, and explained
that an extensive Colombian population
capable of voting in elections at the
Congress is living in Venezuela.
Cañas stated that the duty of the Venezuelan
citizen in the Colombian territory is to
vote in the Venezuelan consulates and the
Colombian residents in Venezuela should also
vote in their consulates. |
