Former Honduran Interim
President Refused Entry To Nicaragua
Former interim President of Honduras,
Roberto Micheletti, was refused entry to
Nicaragua on Saturday, according to reports
from Tegucigalpa.
Micheletti was scheduled to travel to
Nicaragua in a week's time, at the
invitation of Nicaragua's main opposition
Constitutional Liberals.
His application for entry was denied by the
immigrant authorities, which, according to
the Constitutional Liberals, showed lack of
"minimum respect" for Micheletti.
Micheletti, the then Congress speaker,
became Honduran interim leader following a
military coup In June 2009 that ousted then
President Manuel Zelaya.
Micheletti organized the November 2009
elections in which Porfirio Lobo, a member
of the opposition, won the presidency.
Honduras' military coup was condemned by the
international community, including
Nicaragua. |
