One More Week Without Ferry
In Paquera
It will take the next seven days to complete
the repair of the ramps for the ferry at
Paquera, which has caused a nightmare for
those living and/or visiting the areas of
Tambor, Montezuma and other locations on the
Nicoya Peninsula.
Last week the División Marítima Portuaria
del Ministerio de Obras Públicas y
Transportes, prohibitied the Naviera Tambor
that provides ferry service between
Puntarenas and Paquera to carry vehicles due
to the poor structural conditions of the
ramp at Paquera.
The MOPT ordered that the ferry could only
carry persons, bicycles and motorcycles and
during restricted hours to limit the street
on the ramp.
Vehicles, both passenger and commercial,
were and continue forced to use either the
take the long route on the Tempisque or the
playa Naranjo ferry. The route from Paquera
to Naranjo to the San Lucas 1 and II ferries
is 25 kilometres from Paquera and is no
piece of cake to transit.
All the work on the ramp is expected to be
completed before the beginning of the Semana
Santa exodus which begins Friday, March 26.
According to Héctor Arce Cavallini, director
of the División Marítimo Portuaria, the
Naviera Tambor has contracted the work out
directly that will construct the new bridge
or ramp.
