Victim's Relatives Sue Chilean Government For Failure In Tsunami Warning

SANTIAGO - Relatives of victims of the tsunami following the 8.8-magnitude quake in Chile sued the authorities for failure to warn the people against the disaster on Wednesday.

Relatives of two sisters -- Nancy and Eliana Lema Morales, who died in the tsunami, presented their case to the Chilean justice authorities.

Eliana's husband Hugo Fuentealba said they left home for a nearby hill after hearing about the quake in a radio report.

But (former) President Michelle Bachelet swiftly declared that there was not going to be a tsunami at any coast of Chile, so they went back to the town and did not take any precaution.

"When we arrived at the house and I saw through the fence an enormous wave," Fuentealba said.

Nancy and Eliana were taken away by the waves.
