El Salvador Begins Campaign
Against Dengue
SAN SALVADOR - A health campaign against
Aedes Aegypti mosquito, transmitter of
dengue fever, began in El Salvador where the
authorities detected nearly three million
outbreaks of that insect.
According to the Ministry of Health, more
than 18,000 people of public and private
institutions will participate until Sunday
in cleaning idle lots, water disinfection
and fumigation of houses.
The Minister of Health Maria Isabel
Rodriquez expects those actions can
eliminate the mosquitoes and their outbreaks
in record time with the support of health
institutions and private enterprises.
According to Rodriguez, the campaign will
begin with the inspection and cleaning
internally and externally in the
surroundings of each institution.
On Saturday every employee should clean and
put away objects in their own houses that
serve as the vector breeders. On Sunday
cleaning will be promoted in communities
that are 100 meters around the institutions
and houses.
Citizens who do not cooperate with this
campaign may be fined.
Fines shall be imposed on those who do not
open the doors for health workers fumigate,
drop abate pesticide and destroy potential
mosquito breeding sites.
Health inspectors will count with the
support of the Salvadorian National Police
in those areas of high criminal risk. |
