U.S. U-17's Medal With Win
Over Costa Rica
Six different players scored as the Under-17
U.S. Women’s National Team ended the 2010
CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship with a
6-0 win and a third place finish over host
Costa Rica.

Brannon scored before the break while
Lindsey Horan, Isabel Farrell and Morgan
Brian tallied in the second half.
The first goal came in the fifth minute as
Horan flicked a ball near the top of the
penalty area that fooled the Costa Rican
backs and skipped through to Clark, who took
one touch and buried her shot from 10 yards
out.
The USA broke through a packed penalty box,
that often had as many as nice Costa Rican’s
playing back, in the 37th minute after
Farrell got free to sprint into the right
side of the box. Her cross bounced around
before it deflected off Horan to Torres, who
squeezed her shot into the net from seven
yards out.
The final goal of the half also came off
some hustle from Farrell as she tracked down
a cross in the left corner of the field that
had sailed all the way through the goal
mouth. She passed it back to Brannon on the
left wing and she took a touch towards the
penalty box before curving a beautiful shot
into the upper left corner from about 25
yards.
The USA completely dominated possession in
the game and Costa Rica’s only two chances
came when Maria Fernanda Moreira had a good
look at goal in the 53rd, but shot wide
right from 19 yards, and then when Brian had
to clear away a corner kick off a scramble
in the penalty box in the 62nd minute.
The first goal of the second half came in
the 55th minute off a free kick struck from
the penalty arc just a few yards right of
center. Brian spun her shot on goal and the
Costa Rican goalkeeper knocked it down in
front of the goal. Horan was unmarked as she
ran onto the rebound and passed the ball
into the open net.
The fifth goal came 66 minutes into the game
via a nice strike from Farrell, who took a
thread pass from Abby Dahlkemper, turned
toward goal, beat a couple of players and
curved her left-footed shot from 22 yards
into the upper right side of the goal.
The last goal came with eight minutes left
off a corner kick as Brian jumped high to
power a bullet header into the right side of
the goal off a well-struck cross by Torres.
The USA’s third goalkeeper Caroline Stanley
got the start and her first minutes of the
tournament, but touched the ball with her
hands just three times in the game. She made
an easy save on a shot from distance in the
31st minute, punched away a corner kick in
the 62nd and had to grab a bouncing ball in
the penalty area in the 83rd after Costa
Rica had blocked a U.S. clearance.
The USA, which failed to qualify for the
2010 U-17 Women’s World Cup after falling in
penalty kicks to Canada two days ago in the
semifinal, finished the tournament with a
38-0 goal difference over five games while
allowing a total of just seven shots on
goal.
The U.S. U-17s will have a quick turnaround
to their next event, coming together at the
Dallas Cup from April 1-5 to face the
Brazilian U-17 Women’s National Team in two
matches. The first will be on April 3 at
6:30 p.m. CT at Pizza Hut Park and the teams
will also meet on April 5.
Canada won the championship of the
tournament, taking a 1-0 win over Mexico on
an early goal by Kinley McNicoll.
