Venezuela Socialists Debate
Statutes
CARACAS - The 772 delegates to the first
extraordinary Congress of the United
Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV)on
Saturday begin the 16th session to agree on
the main statutes of the country''s main
political block.
The debates center on such affairs as
organization, discipline, commitment, and
ethics that must characterize the over seven
million militants.
How to enter the organization and election
of leaders are other issues under debate.
Yelitza Santaella , member of the PSUV
national leadership, indicated the statutes
should be in line with the socialist
principles and commitment of the Revolution
headed by Hugo Chavez.
In addition, she noted, the PSUV leaders
must be selected democratically. National
and regional leaders must come from the
majority, during grass root processes,
Santaella told Prensa Latina.
Meanwhile, the delegate for Aragua, Marcos
Sosa, insisted on the importance to include
in the internal norms a large section of
revolutionary trends present in the
Venezuelan society.
"Here we have Bolivarians, Marxists,
Christians, representatives from the
Indo-Afro-American leftwing, and supporters
of the community socialism, all involved in
a common cause," he pointed out.
The sessions at the Caracas Planning School
will also include an analysis of the
national and international situation.
