Cold Front and Rain To
Disappear By This Afternoon, Weatherman
Promises
No, the rainy season or winter is not upon
us, although is sure felt like it yesterday
afternoon, as strong winds and heavy rains
at times continued well into the night and
the early morning of Tuesday.
However, the cold front will move on by this
afternoon.
Or at least that is the promise of the
weatherman, the Instituto Nacional
Meteorólogico (IMN).
The strong winds and dark skies began around
3:00pm as the cold front made its way down
the Nicaraguan coast in the Caribbean side,
hitting the area of Limón first and then
moving in land to the Central Valley.
By late afternoon scattered showers were
reported in many areas of San José, and by
early evening the showers turned to rain,
heavy at times, such that the Ruta 32, the
road to Limón, had to be shut down shortly
after 10pm due to mudslides caused by the
heavy rain.
Hard hit are the mountainous areas as the
cold front dumped rain along the entire
Cordillera "Volcánica Central".
On alert are the communities near the rivers
Banano, Blanco, Matina, Estrella, Sixaola,
Pacuare, Reventazón and Chirripó. These
rivers could swell up and overflow their
banks in an instant.
The weather service assures us that by this
afternoon (Tuesday) the weather conditions
will be back to normal for the summer season
and that the Semana Santa will stay within
tradition, hot and sunny.
The weather service is also predicting that
the rainy season will be upon us two weeks
ahead of schedule.
The South Pacific could start to see the
rainy season this weekend, as the weather
service is predicting a start of between
March 27 and 31.
For the Central Pacific the rainy season
should hit between April 21 and 15.
For the Central Valley (San José) the start
of the rainy season is expected between May
6 and 10.
For the North Pacific (Guanacaste) the rainy
season will start between May 11 and 15.
