Ruta 32 Closed

The strong rain since Monday afternoon in the area of the Braulio Carillop national park has caused the complete closure of Ruta 32, the highway to Limón due to mudslides.

Crews of the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) have been working all night to clear the road of the mud and debris and expect to re-open the road before noon today.

Meanwhile, traffic has back up on both side of the closure, many drivers not knowing of the closure, others taking a chance that the road would be open or would re-open earlier than expected.

The closure of the highway is between the Guapiles side of hte Zurquí tunnel to Río Frío.
