Designated MOPT Minister Assumes Post Today

Francisco Jiménez, the designated ministro de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) by president-elect Chinchilla, who replaced Marco Vargas, will take over the post today and not May 8.

The unusual occurrence is at the request of the president-elect to president Oscar Arias to name Jiménez to his cabinet, allowing outgoing MOPT minister Vargas time to rest before he takes over the post of ministro de la Presidencia on May 8.

Jiménez will now be at the centre of the storm that surrounds the country's poor state of condition of the bridges and the controversy over the high fines and tough sanctions of the new Ley de Tránsito.
