Fidel Castro is the Greatest
Example of Solidarity in the World
MANAGUA - Fidel Castro, the Cuban Revolution
leader, has raised the torch of solidarity
higher than anyone in all history, said
Nicaragua's former foreign minister and
Catholic priest Miguel d'Escoto.
He, also a former president of the General
Assembly of the United Nations, referred to
the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution
at the close of the presentation of the
second edition of his book Prayers and
Soliloquies, held Thursday night at the
University of Engineering in this capital,
reported Prensa Latina.
In his words, d 'Escoto recalled the
Christian parable of the Good Samaritan, of
showing love for others and a spirit of
solidarity that ought to prevail between
people.
And then he asked: "Who has, frankly, raised
the torch of solidarity highest in this
world?"
"I would like to say that it was a Pope, I
would like to say that, but I can not say it
because God is listening and I have to tell
only the truth," he said. And then he said:
"Who has raised the torch of freedom higher
and more than anyone ever in history, is
called Commandante Fidel Castro Ruz.
I never get tired of saying that and it's
the truth," he reiterated, adding: "That
example helped us have a revolution in
Nicaragua and now that feeling grows.
Before more than a hundred people who
attended the presentation, Padre d'Escoto
was preceded by the discourses of
intellectuals and friends who stressed the
virtues of the book and the personal
qualities of its author as a fervent
Christian and uncompromising revolutionary.
