Transport Strike Affects Millions in Guatemala

GUATEMALA - Millions of people that use public transportation in Guatemala have been affected on Monday by a national strike in the sector, which is demanding subsidies and greater security to its employees.

The protest has left so far one person wounded, 16 detainees and millions lost in the country's economy, while colleges and schools suspended classes.

Bus drivers put their buses across both lanes of the road at strategic points of access to the capital to cause road chaos and pressure the government into meeting their demands.

Transportation workers said they would be on strike until the government finds a solution to their demands.

The Government minister already started a dialogue with the transportation businesspeople.
