Costa Rica To Go Dark For An Hour Tomorrow
Tomorrow Saturday Costa Ricans have the
opportunity to unite with the world in the
fight to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by
turning off the lights for one hour.
Earth Hour is scheduled for 8:30pm to
9:30pm, local time, where every individual
in the country is asked to his or her effort
by turning off their lights at home or
business to make their stand against climate
change.
The movement started in 2007 in Sydeny,
Australia, when 2.2 million homes businesses
turned off the lights.
One year later, Earth Hour became a global
sustainability with more than 50 million
people across 35 countries participating.
Global landmarks like the Sydney Harbour
Bridge, the CN Tower in Toronto the Golden
Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Rome's
Colosseum, all stood in darkness for an
hour.
In March 2009, the movement included
hundreds of millions with over 4.000 cities
and 88 countries officially switching off un
support, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s
largest global climate change initiative.
Grupo ICE expects this year's hour of lights
out to surpass last year's savings of 95 MW
hours and an estimated 400.000 homes in
Costa Rica going dark. |
