Hotel Frequented By Foreigners Raided For
Prostitution
TA 49 year old woman was arrested suspected
of managing a group of young women who
provided men sexual favours for a fee, the
majority of the men being foreigners, as
police descended on a Barrio Amón hotel that
masked as "prostibulo" (whorehouse).
The Hotel Libano (formerly Hotel Zona Blue)
and also known as "Little
Havana" located across the street
from the INVU, was under police
investigation for the past three months for
"proxenetismo" (pimping).
In total 18 women (16 Costa Ricans and 2
Nicaraguans) were found in the hotel during
the raid.
Authorities say the women would hand over
us$50 to the hotel after spending time with
the men in one of the hotel's rooms.
In Costa Rica prostitution, though not
legal, is not illegal, while proxenetismo
is.
The woman whose identify was not revealed
was handed over by police to the Ministerio
Público for processing.
One daily ran the headline this morning
