Death Toll Of Car Bombing In
Colombia Rises to 9
BOGOTA - The death toll of the car bombing
which occurred in front of the Mayor's
office and the Prosecutor's Office in the
Colombian port of Buenaventura rose to nine,
and 59 others were injured, the authorities
said on Thursday.
Buenaventura's government director, Henry
Moreno, said on Thursday that Defense
Minister Gabriel Silva visited on Wednesday
the zone of the explosion and offered a
reward of 300 million Colombian pesos
(156,000 U.S. dollars) for any information
leading to the capture of the responsible
ones of the attack.
According to Moreno, the number of the
deaths rose to nine after three injured
people died on Wednesday.
"The attack was very strong. We condemn this
act, and we are going to continue working
against the violence and for a better
Buenaventura ... They made an impact on our
security," Buenaventura's Mayor Jose Felix
Ocoro said.
On Wednesday a car bomb parked nearby the
Prosecutor's office and some 20 meters away
from the Mayor's office of Buenaventura
exploded.
The authorities are investigating whether
the attack was a revenge for the death of
the chief of the Colombian Revolutionary
Armed Forces or a revenge between drug
traffickers. |
