"Travestis" Seize Alajuela

The next time you are in Alajuela, more
specifically the area of Corazón de Jesús,
and you see a beautiful girl at the corner
of the street in the night, look again, she
or he is probably one of the many
transvestites (travestis in Spanish)
that have taken way the peace of the
residents of the area.
The residents of Corazón de Jesús say that
their streets at night are turned into a
modern version of "Sodom and Gomorrah",
where the travestis have sex right on
the streets and undeterred even by
bystanders.
The residents says that once night falls,
the travestis began to appear out of nowhere
and assure that it is not a question of
discriminating against this group, but
rather find it immoral that they should have
sex right there on the open streets.
The face behind the complaints of the
residents is Olman Quesada, who explains
that transvestites and their customers have
sex openly, up against walls of buildings,
along with the use and sale of drugs.
Quesada added that the travestis have
also become hostile and violent when
confronted by residents, throwing the
community into a panic.
The residents have grouped and with the
support of the Fuerza Pública (national
police) and the Policía Municipal (municipal
police) have begun patrolling the streets at
night.
Quesada said he just wants them to move on.
"Here live decent people. We have children
and do not want to see the scenes on the
streets", said Quesada. |
