Former Conjoined Twins Moved
To A Shelter
The sisters Yurelia and Fiorella, now four
years old and the centre of attention
several years back when doctors separated
them, are again making news, but this time
not so good as the children have had to be
separated from their parents and their
family living in a shelter.
The parents of the former conjoined twins,
according to health and child welfare
services, have not been taking proper care
of the two girls who required a clean home
environment and that the parents maintain
their medical treatment.
This past week the Patronationa Nacional de
la Infancia (PANI) - the child welfare
service in Costa Rica - were facing the use
of force to remove the children from the
family home as parents were being reluctant
to heed to an order by authorities.
This is the not the first time the PANI has
had to intervene with this family.
According to PANI records, in 1999, before
the birth of the twins, another daughter was
removed from the family is now being cared
for in an institution.
PANI officials say that the best for the
little girls is that they be with the
parents, as the separation causes anxiety
and other psychological problems and for
such the order is temporary, allowing time
for the parents to correct sanitary
conditions for the health of the minors. |
