Chile One Month after the
Quake
SANTIAGO - The humanitarian actions to aid
the victims of the February 27 quake and
tsunami in Chile were assigned to the
National Emergency Committee, according to
the local media.
The Armed Force Logistics Coordination
Center was previously in charge of the aid
but that responsibility was passed to
civilian authorities one month after the
quake that caused around 500 deaths, 96
missing people and 800 other victims.
In addition, more than 200,000 houses were
destroyed or terribly damaged by the strong
quake that also left 2,750 schools and
hospitals unable to be used.
More than 400 aftershocks have taken place
one month after the February devastating
earthquake in the country's central southern
area.
There was a quake of 5.9 degrees in the
Richter scale on Friday in Chile's northern
area.
On Saturday morning, there was a 4.7-degree
earth tremor, with its epicenter 55
kilometers (34 miles) southeast from
Valparaiso and 35 kilometers (22 miles) deep
into the sea. |
