Costa Rica Leads Central America in Information Technology

Costa Rica leads in Central America in information technology according to the World Economic Forum and Insead Business School, one of the world's leading and largest graduate business schools.

The report, Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010, ranks Costa Rica first place in Central America,  49th place worldwide, ahead of Panama (58), El Salvador (81), Guatemala (83), Honduras (106) and Nicaragua (125).

In Latin America, Costa Rican ranked third, behind Chile (40) and Puerto Rica (45).

The ranking included 133 countries, and attempts to measure three components:

1) The degree to which a national environment is conducive to ICT development and diffusion, by taking into account a number of features of the broad business environment, some regulatory aspects, and the soft and hard infrastructure for ICT.

2) The extent to which the three main national stakeholders in a society (i.e., individuals, the business sector, and the government) are inclined and prepared to use ICT in their daily activities and operation.

3) The actual use of ICT by the above three stakeholders.
