Petrobras Rated As Brazil's Most Valuable Brand

RIO DE JANEIRO - Petrobras, the state-owned oil and gas giant of Brazil, is the country's most valuable brand, according to the results of a survey released Friday.

The survey conducted by consulting company BrandAnalytics puts Petrobras' brand value at 19.3 billion reais (11.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 735 percent from the estimate by a similar survey last year.

Petrobras said the results are a recognition of the trust the company has among various social sectors in Brazil.

"Petrobras is always looking to improve its processes, products, and to invest in technology and environmental responsibility to meet the expectations of all Brazilians," said Wilson Santarosa, the company's executive manager for corporate communications, upon receiving the Most Valuable Brazilian Brand award.

Bradesco bank came second in the survey with a brand value of 14.8 billion reais (8.5 billion dollars), followed by the Itau bank, which is worth 13.3 billion reais (7.6 billion dollars).

Globally, Petrobras is ranked 73rd in the most valuable brands list, with the top notch going to online search giant Google, which is worth 114.2 billion dollars, according to the similar survey.
