San José -
Gaupiles Route
To Be Re-Opened
Tomorrow
The Policía de
Tránsito informs
that passage
trough the
Braulio Carrillo
(San José -
Guapiles) will
be re-opened
tomorrow
(Monday).
Work crews have
been busy at
work for days to
re-open the road
that has been
closed most of
the past week.
Ministerio de
Obras Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT)
authorities say
that more than
250 truck loads
of debris has
been removed
from the roadway
caused by
massive
landslides due
to the heavy
rain this past
week.
MOPT crews have
been on the
scene of the
landslides since
Tuesday and
attempts to have
the road
re-opened on
Thursday, then
Friday were not
possible.
Andrés Bermúdez,
communications
director for
Tránsito, said
improvements in
the weather on
Saturday is
making the
Monday target
possible.
However, don't
be too surprised
if the road is
not re-opened
tomorrow, as the
mountainous area
east of the
Zurquí tunnel is
part of the rain
forest, where
fog and rain and
mudslides are
common. |
