Bolivian Workers On Strike
Demanding Higher Salaries
LA PAZ - The workers of the Bolivian Labor
Center began on Tuesday a 24-hour strike,
demanding the government increase their
salaries by more than 5 percent.
On Monday night, Bolivian Economy Minister
Luis Arce approved a 5-percent salary
increase, which was rejected by the workers
who called it "insufficient."
"I regret the attitude of the companions
form the Labor Center," Arce said, adding:
"There are no reasons for them to hold this
strike."
Meanwhile, spokespersons from the Urban
Teachers Mobilization Committee of La Paz
City and the Mining Workers Syndicate
Federation also announced that they would
join the strike to support the Labor Center.
The strikers also blocked the highways
linking La Paz to other areas. |
