6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits
Chile-Peru Border
An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter
scale rocked northern Chile on Wednesday,
the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was centered 37 km northwest of
the northern city of Arica at a depth of 126
km, the USGS said.
The quake was also felt in southern Peru
near its border with Chile.
According to the USGS, a 5.5-magnitude and a
4.9-magnitude quake hit Chile respectively
on Tuesday, causing no casualties or damage.
Chile was battered by an 8.8-degree
earthquake on Feb. 27, which killed some 500
people. The quake was followed by many
aftershocks.
