Minister Says
Costa Rica Is
Not Equipped To
Manage National
Stadium
Osvaldo Pandolfo,
outgoing
ministro del el
Consejo de
Deportes (Sports
Minister) said
in his last
hours in office
that the country
is not equipped
to manage the
new national
stadium under
construction.
The ICODER is
the owner of the
stadium that is
being built by
the Chinese and
donated to Costa
Rica, but
according to
Pandolfo, does
not have the
financial
capacity to
manage and
maintain such a
project.
The new sports
minister,
Giselle Goyenaga,
refused to
comment on the
Pandolfo
comments.
Pandolofo
assures that the
Chinchilla
administration
will have 11
months to figure
out how to
finance the
management of
the stadium once
the Chinese hand
it over.
The Pandolfo
comments can be
taken as
bitterness for
being passed
over by
Chinchilla to
continue his
work at Sports,
who will be
headed by a
woman.
The bitterness
was deepened
when Chinchilla
offered Pandolfo
to stay on at
Sports, though
not as minister,
"as long as he
doesn't mind
working for a
woman",
chinchilla told
the press in
March in
announcing her
choice of Sports
minister.
Pandolfo quickly
replied he would
not stay on. And
now, waiting to
the last hours
to make his
comments?
