The BIG PARTY Is
On For Today!
Laura
Chinchilla, the
first woman
president in the
history of Costa
Rica, will be
sworn in today
at noon, in what
can only be
described as one
big party, as
thousands are
expected gather
in the Sabana
park to witness
the event, which
is followed
later in the day
with a
spectacular show
that includes
international
artists like
Ruben Blades and
Costa Rica's
own, Debi Nova.
As well hundreds
of thousands are
expected to
follow the event
in Costa Rica on
their television
sets, while the
international
media sends out
its message to
all corners of
the world.
In actuality the
party started
last night, with
a good-bye
dinner hosted by
outgoing
president Arias
at the Teatro
Nacional. For
that event, the
Marriott people
were hired to
put on a spread,
converting the
Teatro Nacional
into a banquet
hall.
President-elect
Chinchilla
wasn't there,
she was putting
on her on shin
dig at the Museo
de Arte
Costarricense,
while the
Ministro de
Relaciones
Exteriores y
Culto, Bruno
Stagno, was at
the
Intercontinental
hotel with his
cocktail party,
playing host to
the
international
delegations and
specially
invited guests.
Today's program
begins at 10am,
with the
Constitutional
Oath of the
vice-presidents
and the
president-elect,
concluding
shortly after
noon when Arias
hands over the
presidential
sash to his
successor.
At 1pm, that is
if president
Chinchilla will
have finished
her hour long
speech, which is
rumoured that
she finished
last night
during serving
dinner at the
Chinchilla home,
Johnny Araya -
remember him,
the mayor of San
José - will be
hosting his own
lunch to the
official
delegations and
invited others.
The first
session of the
Chinchilla
cabinet will
take place at
the same time
which includes
the swearing in
of the 2010-2014
cabinet members.
At 2pm there
will an
"official"
photography
session,
following by a
lunch hosted by
president
Chincilla.
But, the real
big show starts
at 7pm, when the
"Gran Concierto
por la
Democracia"
takes place and
the stage set up
for the morning
ceremony comes
to life with
artists like
Panamanian
singer/songwriter/actor
and former
minister of
Tourism,
headlines the
list of artists
that includes
Costa Rica's own
Debi Nova, fast
becoming a big
success in the
United States
and local
artists like Tikizia
and Editus and
many, many
others.
Everyone is
invited to the
big party and
there is no
cost.
