For Arias, Today
Is A Dream Come
True. Almost.
Shakira Won't Be
Coming.
The swearing in
of Laura
Chinchilla, the
first female
president of
Costa Rica, is a
dream come true
for outgoing
president, Oscar
Arias.
During many of
the public
events on
Friday, Arias
said that he is
proud to hand
over the country
to a woman.
Later today, at
noon, Arias will
hand over the
keys to Casa
Presidencial to
Laura
Chinchilla, but
last night he
gave her a
bouquet of
roses.
For Arias, the
Chinchilla
presidency, also
means a
continuation of
his projects of
"opening" Costa
Rica to world
markets and
competition.
"The road is
paved and Laura
will continue
on", said Arias
this week.
However, another
of Arias's
dreams never
came to a
reality, and
that is to have
had the
Colombian sex
bomb, Shakira,
at his going
away party.
Arias is said to
have wanted the
Colombian singer
by his side and
is said to have
asked for her
through a mutual
acquaintance.
But, due to
scheduling
conflicts, Arias
will have to do
without her.
"Tomorrow night
(tonight) I will
be at the
concert, it will
be a nice event
to share with
artists I
invited,
although I
really would
have loved to
have Shakira
there", Arias
said last night.
However, Arias
will not be
alone.
The outgoing
president has a
reputation (you
didn't read it
here, folks) of
a ladies man and
will be
surrounded by
many friends,
along with some
of his former
cabinet members
and heads of
public
institutions at
his private home
in Rohrmoser.
The Arias home
is 1 kilometre
from the Sabana
park where the
swearing
ceremony and the
concert tonight
will take place.
Arias and his
entourage are
expected to
walk, leaving
the presidential
car at home,
which he won't
be able to take
home anyways.
