Chilean President Announces
New Work Plan
SANTIAGO - Chilean President Sebastian
Pinera met on Friday with 53 provincial
governors to unveil his work plan
highlighting goals and commitments of the
government.
During the meeting held at La Moneda Palace,
Pinera stressed the challenges in
reconstructing the earthquake-devastated
areas and the need to create a new financial
plan that underlines the reallocation of
resources.
The Chilean president said the new financial
plan is intended to request "a special
effort to big companies and the wealthier
sectors, to give more and better aid to
those who suffer the impacts of the
earthquake, the poorest sectors, our middles
class and our micro, small and medium-sized
enterprises."
The Pinera administration has set a target
to help the stagnant economy grow by 6
percent and to create 1 million jobs, in the
2010-2014 period.
Eradication of extreme poverty,
administrative decentralization, and various
reforms at the provincial level are also
among the goals announced by the Chilean
president.
