Nicaragua For Better Health Care

MANAGUA - The Sandinista government strategy is to seek top-quality health care for all Nicaraguans and not only for well-off sectors, said President Daniel Ortega.

Ortega presided over the opening ceremony of the third training course for specialists to be attended by 300 resident physicians from all parts of the country, chosen by their student records.

These mostly young docs join another 300 who started their training in 2008 and a similar number in 2009, so there are currently 900 doctors in training in over a dozen specialties, a higher amount than those trained during 16 years of neoliberal governments in Nicaragua.

During his speech in a solemn ceremony at the auditorium of the Catholic University of Nicaragua, Ortega thanked Cuba and Venezuela for the assistance given to Nicaragua in the field of health and highlighted the work of Cuban medical brigades.
