Six FARC Rebels Killed, 18
Captured In Colombia
BOGOTA - At least six rebels of the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)
were killed and 18 others captured by the
Colombian Army in central west of the
country last week, authorities said on
Sunday.
Six members of the FARC's "Angelino Godoy"
Front were killed in the rural area of the
city of Neiva, Huila province, Gen. Henry
Torres said, adding that one soldier was
killed in the clashes.
Leader of the Front alias "Rigo" was among
the killed, who was believed to be behind
many "terrorist attacks" and murder of some
20 people, including a government official
and a policeman.
During another operation, a member of the
FARC's "Uriel Londolo" gang was arrested by
the army in Arauca province on the border
with Venezuela.
Meanwhile, police captured other 17 rebels,
including brother of the commander of the
Front 30 alias "Mincho," in the rural area
of Buenaventura Port, in the southwestern
Valle de Cauca province.
Since January the FARC has intensified its
attacks in several regions of the country,
as it usually does before the presidential
elections, which will be held on May 30.
