Cyclone And
Hurricane Season
Expected To Be
Very Active This
Year
The hurricane
season in the
Atlantic is upon
us and this year
the Institutio
Meteorológico
Nacional (IMN) -
Costa Rica's
meteorological
service -
expects to be
affected by 15
cyclones, eight
hurricanes, four
of which are
expected to be
intense.

During the
season, Costa
Rica is affected
by only 10
cyclones and 6
hurricanes.
Although Costa
Rica does not
normally get hit
directly by the
cyclones and
hurricanes, its
effects are felt
throughout the
country,
especially in
the Caribbean
coast of Limón
province.
As such the
Comisión
Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE)
- national
emergency
commission -
says it is well
prepared and
equipped to face
the season.
Part of the CNE
preparations
include stocking
warehouses with
food and
supplies to get
the affected.
In the Pacific
North (Gauancaste)
and Central
Valley (San
José) the
increased
activity in the
Atlantic will
bring more rain
than usual.
The CNE says
that of the 81
cantones that
make up the
Costa Rican
territory, more
than half (45)
are prone to
flooding and the
most intense
effect of the
cyclones and
hurricanes. |
